The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has commenced the 25th National Council on Women Affairs and Child Development (NCWACD) in Benin City, Edo State.

The event with the theme, “Strengthening Systems and Deepening Social Impacts: Advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda for Women, Children, Families, and Other Vulnerable Groups,” brings together delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In her welcome address during the technical session held at the New Festival Hall, Government House, the Permanent Secretary, of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Dr. Maryam Ismaila Keshinro, highlighted the importance of the annual council meeting, stating that it provides a veritable platform to initiate policies, design programmes and activities towards improving the lives and livelihood of women, children, the family and the other vulnerable groups.

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to deepening collaboration with state governments and other stakeholders to ensure that decisions reached at the council translate into tangible outcomes.

During the session, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics of the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr John MacDonald, presented three memoranda, one of which, the memorandum to advance women’s participation in the digital sector, was adopted by the council. The council thereafter urged all states to domesticate the initiative, stressing that the world is on the path of digitization and that women must not be left behind.

The second day of the technical session featured a joyous celebration of Hon. Commissioner Mrs. Eugenia Abdallah’s birthday, highlighted by heartfelt tributes and the cutting of a cake.
