Members of Institute Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) held it’s annual “Walk for Life” Programme over the weekend with a charge on members to continue to promote health and wellness in their day to day activities.

The program which featured series of wellness activities including health walk, dance and aerobics sessions and health talk drew participants from all walks of life.

Delivering the health talk, the guest speaker, Dr. Michael Imoukhuede Asije, Project Coordinator, VisionSpring addressed the significance of work-life balance, while underscoring the necessity of regular exercise and lifestyle adjustments in maintaining overall wellbeing. He dispelled common health myths and offered practical guidance on how Professionals can sustain their health while managing demanding career responsibilities.

He referred to sedentary lifestyle of long hours at the desk, minimal physical activity, eye strain and digital fatigue, stress and burnout, poor nutrition and musculoskeletal problems to include common health challenges faced by Secretaries and Administrators.

Dr. Asigie also stressed on the importance of regular breaks to include 20-20-20 rule for eye care which he meant every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

He encouraged participants to make small, consistent lifestyle changes rather than drastic and unsustainable ones.

While appreciating members and non members for coming, Chairman of the ICSAN Edo/Delta Chapter, Barr. Agatha Dumeji Nwanji emphasized on the importance of integrating health and wellness into the professional lives of Chartered Secretaries and governance practitioners.

“As Chartered Secretaries, our schedules are often demanding, with the pressure of deadlines, meeting, and responsibilities leaving little room for self-care. Today serves as a vital reminder that health is not separate from governance, rather it is an essential part of it. A healthy mind and body are indispensable to sound decision-making, effective leadership and sustainable service,” Barr. Nwanji stated.

While thanking the Edo/Delta ICSAN for the laudable initiative, an Administrator and a Senior Assistant Registrar, Ifueko Koko Ewere told Journalists that “physical wellness, the Walk to Life exercise will help improve our cardiovascular health, boost our fitness level, reduce stress and anxiety level. As you can see, walking helps in weight management as it helps in maintaining a healthy body weight. It also increases your energy which will help improve your sleep and as you can see most of us will go back to our respective homes and have a sound sleep after the morning walk for life session within Benin City.” She Opined.
