Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally declared his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a detailed declaration statement addressed to constituents across Delta Central, Omo-Agege said his decision followed extensive consultations with political leaders, stakeholders, and residents across the district’s eight local government areas.

He described his return bid as a response to what he called “overwhelming calls” from the electorate, emphasizing his commitment to providing experienced and effective representation in the National Assembly. He also pledged continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 and served as Deputy Senate President, highlighted what he termed his track record in office, including the facilitation of federal projects such as educational institutions, healthcare upgrades, and infrastructure development across the district.

According to him, Delta Central requires “a strong and influential voice” in the Senate to attract federal presence and ensure the interests of the Urhobo people are adequately represented in national policymaking.

He outlined key priorities of his campaign to include infrastructure development, job creation, improved healthcare and education, as well as enhanced legislative effectiveness. He also stressed the importance of collaboration with the executive arm of government to deliver tangible benefits to constituents.

On economic reforms by the current administration, Omo-Agege expressed support for policies such as fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and infrastructure investment initiatives, noting their long-term benefits for Delta State and the nation at large.

He further called for unity within the APC in Delta State, urging party members to work together ahead of the 2027 elections, while appealing to voters across political divides to support his candidacy.

“I am asking for your mandate once more, not for a title, but out of duty,” he said, adding that his ambition is driven by a desire to ensure Delta Central remains relevant in shaping Nigeria’s future.
