KATSINA — Armed bandits reportedly handed over the body of retired General Rabe in Katsina State on Saturday before retreating into a nearby forest in Matazu Local Government Area without encountering resistance.

According to local sources, the heavily armed assailants arrived in the area and released the remains of the retired military officer before moving towards the forest, raising fresh concerns about the security situation in parts of the state.

Witnesses claimed the gunmen left the area unchallenged, sparking reactions among residents who questioned the ability of security agencies to effectively track and confront criminal groups operating within the region.

Details surrounding the circumstances of General Rabe’s death remained unclear as of the time of filing this report, while authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the development.

The incident comes amid ongoing security challenges in several communities across Katsina State and the wider North-West region, where banditry, kidnappings and attacks on rural settlements have continued to pose serious threats to lives and property.

Residents have called on security agencies to intensify operations against criminal groups and strengthen surveillance around vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks.

As of press time, efforts to obtain official confirmation from security authorities were ongoing.
