The Edo State Government has announced the nomination of five professionals for appointment as members of the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission, subject to confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly.

The nominations, approved by Governor Monday Okpebholo, were disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

According to the statement, Dr. Shittu H. Shaibu has been nominated as Chairman of the commission, while Engr. Inegbedion Oria Thomas, Abdulrazak Abubakar, Engr. Alex Edomwonyi Onaiwu and Patrick Eromosele Iluobe, Esq., were nominated as members.

The government described Shaibu as a seasoned electricity regulatory expert and public sector professional with more than three decades of experience in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry, public enterprise reform and regulatory governance.

He previously served at the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), where he retired in 2024 as General Manager, Consumer Affairs.

Also nominated is Engr. Inegbedion Oria Thomas, a retired Director of Projects at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abuja, with extensive experience in rural electrification, project management, technical compliance and engineering oversight.

Abdulrazak Abubakar, a financial engineer, researcher and entrepreneur, currently serves as Director and Financial Analyst at RAMIK Accountant (Pty) Ltd in South Africa. He previously worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Johannesburg and has expertise in quantitative finance, economic policy and blockchain technology.

Engr. Alex Edomwonyi Onaiwu is an electrical engineer with over eight years of experience in systems design, technical project delivery and operational efficiency, while Patrick Eromosele Iluobe, Esq., is a legal practitioner and public sector administrator with experience in legal practice, legislative service, government advisory roles and business management.

The state government said the nominations reflect Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to assembling a competent and experienced team to provide effective regulation of Edo State’s electricity sector.

“The nomination of these distinguished professionals underscores the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo to assembling a team of competent and experienced individuals to provide effective regulation of the electricity sector in Edo State,” the statement said.

The government added that the nominees’ names would be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation.
