BENIN CITY, Edo State — The Edo State House of Assembly has appointed Hon. Natasha Osawaru, representing Egor Constituency, as the new Minority Leader of the House.
The development was announced during Monday morning’s plenary at the Assembly Complex in Benin City, following a reshuffling of the principal leadership positions of the legislature.
Osawaru’s emergence, under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), marks a new phase in her legislative career. She previously served as Deputy Majority Leader and has been actively involved in legislative debates and initiatives focused on grassroots development, youth empowerment and women’s advancement.
Her elevation to the minority leadership is also expected to strengthen the NDC caucus and provide a stronger voice for opposition lawmakers in the Assembly.
Reacting to her appointment shortly after the plenary, Osawaru described the new position as a responsibility entrusted to her by her colleagues and the people she represents.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust. Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise,” she said.
She pledged to use her new position to advance the development of Edo State, support the progress of the NDC and promote the interests of the people of Egor Constituency.
“As Minority Leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute,” Osawaru added.
The appointment was contained in a statement signed by the Media & Strategic Communications Directorate, Office of Hon. Natasha Osawaru, Minority Leader, Edo State House of Assembly.
