Aniagwu says party will showcase Tinubu, Oborevwori’s records, rejects election rigging and urges political actors to respect the law.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has pledged to pursue an issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning political actors against violence, inflammatory rhetoric and actions capable of undermining peace in the state.
The Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu, gave the assurance on Monday in Asaba while unveiling members of the committee to journalists.
Aniagwu announced Mr Valentine Onojeguo as vice-chairman, Hon. Timi Tonye as secretary, while Olorogun Festus Ahon, Sir Kelly Okolugbo and Mr Jackson Ekwugum were named members.
He said the committee would focus on communicating the policies, programmes and performance records of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the electorate ahead of the elections.
According to him, the committee’s responsibility would extend beyond the president and governor to cover APC candidates contesting seats in the Delta State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate.
“We will stay with the issues,” Aniagwu said, urging journalists to partner with the committee in providing voters with accurate information about the party’s candidates, policies and programmes.
He expressed confidence that the performance of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations would provide the APC with a strong basis to seek the electorate’s support in 2027.
APC Rejects Election Rigging
The campaign spokesman said the party would rely on its performance records rather than electoral malpractice to convince voters.
“We will not get involved in rigging elections. We will show our report card,” he said.
Aniagwu urged political leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint in their public statements, warning that inflammatory comments could provoke violence and encourage supporters to take the law into their own hands.
He maintained that the state government would not tolerate violence, regardless of the political affiliation of those involved.
“The governor has warned earlier that nobody is above the law. We will not tolerate violence, irrespective of the divide anybody belongs to,” he said.
‘Report Electoral Offences to Security Agencies’
Aniagwu also cautioned against calls for jungle justice, insisting that suspected electoral offences should be reported to the appropriate authorities rather than met with retaliation or mob action.
“We are not in a jungle republic. If there is anybody carrying out an action you consider not to be in line with the electoral guidelines, that is why we have the security agencies. Report them and let the law take its course,” he said.
He described calls for extrajudicial punishment as a threat to the peace and stability of Delta State, urging residents to avoid statements that could turn political disagreements into confrontations or attacks.
The APC spokesman said the party would concentrate on explaining the policies and reforms of the federal and state governments, expressing optimism that their programmes would contribute to a better future for residents.
He added that the committee would work with journalists to ensure that voters received relevant information to assess the party’s candidates on their records, policies and proposed programmes as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
