Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has inspected several roads across Benin City, assuring residents that massive road construction, rehabilitation and repair works will commence across the state with the onset of the dry season.
The governor, who was accompanied by the Special Adviser on Projects Monitoring and Implementation, Engr. Phoebe Williams-Bello, Edo APC Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, and other top government officials, inspected several sections of the Benin-Sapele Road, including the RCCG, Evbukhu and Bellisima sections.
The inspection team also visited the water retention point along the Benin-Sapele Road bypass, Adesuwa Flyover and Akhionbare, among other locations.
Speaking during the exercise, Okpebholo said the inspection was part of his administration’s renewed efforts to address the challenges of deplorable roads across Edo State, particularly as the dry season provides favourable conditions for construction activities.
“We have embarked on this inspection because it is the dry season and it’s time to go back to work. It’s time for us to quickly address the roads across Edo State and ensure it’s motorable for Edo people and Nigerians,” the governor said.
He disclosed that the contractor handling a section of the Benin-Sapele Road had assured the government that the project would be completed before Christmas, bringing relief to motorists and other road users.
According to him, the completion of the project would improve transportation and make travelling along the busy route more convenient for residents and Nigerians using the corridor.
“The contractor handling section of the Benin-Sapele Road has promised that between now and Christmas, the road will be completed. It’s good news for Edo people and Nigerians that will be using the road. Nigerians using the road will be happy any moment from now,” he added.
Also speaking, a representative of the construction company handling the Sapele Road project, identified as Mr. Star, said work had commenced on the stone base following the onset of the dry season.
He assured that the construction team was working towards connecting Benin City to Warri before Christmas, promising a smoother driving experience for motorists.
“Dry season is here as we embark on stone base work, and before Christmas we will connect Benin to Warri carriageway and it will be completed. People driving from Benin will drive straight and enjoy their driving,” he said.
The inspection underscores the Okpebholo administration’s focus on road infrastructure development, with the government promising to intensify repairs, rehabilitation and reconstruction works to improve road connectivity and ease transportation across Edo State.
The development was contained in a press release issued by the Edo State Government House, Benin City.
