Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a two-day capacity-building workshop for community newspaper publishers across the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots reporting and improve coverage of government activities.
The workshop, scheduled for November 17 and 18, 2026, will take place at Hotel Benizia, Asaba, with proceedings commencing at 8:30 a.m. daily.
The approval was made public in a press statement issued by the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Newspapers, Comrade Prince Orhomonokpaye.
According to the statement, the workshop is themed, “Adequate Reporting of the Achievements of the New MORE Agenda” and is designed to equip community newspaper publishers with the professional skills needed to effectively monitor, document and report the policies, programmes and achievements of the Oborevwori-led administration.
The training will focus on promoting accurate, factual and comprehensive reporting of government activities and development initiatives, particularly those with direct impact on communities at the grassroots.
Professor Emmanuel Ufuoohu-Biri, Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, will serve as the lead speaker at the workshop. He will be joined by other distinguished speakers and resource persons expected to share their knowledge and professional experiences with participants.
The initiative is expected to provide a valuable platform for community newspaper publishers to strengthen their professional capacity, sharpen their reporting skills and improve the quality of journalism on governance and development issues across Delta State.
It is also expected to deepen grassroots coverage of government policies and programmes while encouraging more informed and factual reporting of developments across the state.
