Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has credited the administration of President Bola Tinubu with implementing reforms that have made most local government areas (LGAs) across Nigeria financially viable.

The Deputy Governor, spoke on Sunday while hosting Hon. Eugene Okolocha, Ph.D., the Commissioner representing the South-South zone in the National Law Reform Commission.

He expressed joy that local government chairmen are now executing tangible, people-oriented projects.

Sir Onyeme noted the stark contrast between the current financial health of the councils and the previous administration, saying, “before now, it was evident that State governments were supporting local government councils in several areas financially because some of them were having what was termed, ‘zero allocation’.

He highlighted the significant turnaround in local government administration emphasizing that “some of the local government councils could not even pay salaries of their workers, but today, the story has changed, the councils are now viable to the extent that some of them are executing multi-million Naira projects.”

During the visit, Deputy Governor Onyeme thanked Okolocha and urged him to continue to perform his duties diligently, expressing confidence that the Commissioner’s excellent track record would lead to further appointments.

Hon. Okolocha, the first Minority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly and a former Lecturer in the Faculty of Law, University of Abuja, informed the Deputy Governor that his visit was to intimate him about his activities as a newly appointed Commissioner.

Hon. Obi Nzete, Chairman, Ndokwa West Local Government Council, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Media, Mr Donatus Onyenenue, ACA, were among those who witnessed the visit.
