The Management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Mrs. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander, 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig Gen E.O. Oduyebo, at the Command Headquarters in Benin City.

The purpose of the visit was to formally inform the Brigade Command of the appointment of a new Chief Medical Director.

During the meeting, Prof. Ize-Iyamu highlighted UBTH’s role as a leading tertiary referral center that is expanding to handle a growing number of critical cases. She also proposed specific areas of collaboration with the military.

She stated that plans are underway to upgrade the Occupational Therapy Department of the hospital into a specialized center for limb replacement. This initiative aims to help wounded soldiers regain normalcy and improve their quality of life.

The hospital is also working to establish a dedicated ward and clinic to treat soldiers in the region who have experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of combat operations.

In his response, the Commander, Brig Gen E.O. Oduyebo, commended the initiative and assured the UBTH management of the Brigade’s commitment to a stronger collaboration in these areas.

Other Management team members on the visit are CMAC Prof S.U. Okugbo, DCMAC Clinical Services, Prof Amina Okhakhu and DCMAC Training and monitoring Dr. Fidelis Eki-Udoko
