The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Special Projects, has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with Ministries, Departments and Agencies under its oversight, in order to advance the implementation of the MORE Agenda of the state government.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Oboro Preyor, gave the assurance at the commencement of the 2026 budget defence exercise, following the presentation of the Appropriation Bill to the legislature by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Addressing the Director-General of the Direct Labour Agency (DLA), Hon. Emmanuel Ighomena, and his management team, Hon. Preyor expressed confidence that with enhanced support and strategic guidance from the committee, the agency is well positioned to deliver improved performance in the 2026 fiscal year.
He urged the DLA to intensify efforts in ensuring that funds allocated to it are prudently managed and translated into visible, high-impact projects across the state.
Flanked by other members of the committee, the Chairman emphasized that the Assembly expects all agencies under its supervision to step up their operational efficiency and fully align with their statutory responsibilities.
He assured that going forward, the House would help intensify engagement with the Executive towards ensuring prompt release of funds”, blaming part of the challenges on what he called as “unhealthy bureaucratic bottle neck”.
Earlier, the DLA Director-General presented a detailed report on the agency’s activities, highlighting progress recorded in the execution of ongoing and completed projects in the outgoing year.
He noted that despite operational challenges, the agency remained committed to complementing government’s infrastructural development drive.
The House Committee also engaged the Commissioner for Special Duties in a separate session, signalling the Assembly’s resolve to subject all MDAs to thorough scrutiny in line with its oversight mandate.
The budget defence exercise continues as the legislature works towards the timely passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
