Anthony Osarobo has emerged as the youngest council chairman-elect in Edo State after securing a commanding victory in the Ovia South West Local Government chairmanship election.
The 30-year-old candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated candidates from 11 other political parties in the election conducted on Saturday by the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC).
According to the official results announced at the local government collation centre by the Returning Officer, Dr. Arodoye Nosakhare, Osarobo polled an overwhelming 98,994 votes to clinch the chairmanship seat.
“After the collation of results across the various political parties, the APC chairmanship candidate, having scored the majority of valid votes, is hereby returned elected,” Nosakhare declared.
The results showed a wide gap between the APC and its closest challengers. The Allied Party secured 28 votes, Action Alliance 42, African Action Congress 32, Action Democratic Party 26, All Progressives Grand Alliance 25, Allied People’s Movement five, Action People’s Party 12, while the New Nigeria People’s Party, Peoples Redemption Party and Young Progressives Party recorded one vote each. The Zenith Labour Party polled 15 votes.
Speaking after his victory, Osarobo expressed gratitude to the people of Ovia South West for the overwhelming support and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him through impactful leadership.
“I am honoured to have been elected Chairman of Ovia South West. I do not take this victory for granted because it reflects the trust and confidence the people have placed in me. I remain committed to working tirelessly to promote development, improve governance and deliver meaningful progress for our local government,” he said.
Osarobo’s victory marks a significant milestone in Edo State politics, making him the youngest individual elected to lead a local government council in the state.
