A doctor has raised concerns over the risks associated with multiple Caesarean sections after a woman reportedly died following her fifth C-section.

The doctor, identified as Cynthia Reginald, disclosed the incident in an emotional social media post, saying the woman had been admitted for her fifth Caesarean section but died despite efforts by medical personnel to save her life.

According to Reginald, the medical team administered blood and provided other emergency interventions in an attempt to stabilise the patient, but she eventually succumbed.

“My heart is heavy today,” Reginald wrote, describing the incident as one that “shakes you to your core.”

She said the woman had arrived at the hospital expecting to deliver her baby and leave with the newborn, but the situation ended tragically.

Reginald used the incident to urge women who have undergone multiple Caesarean sections to take their health and safety seriously and seek early medical advice when planning subsequent pregnancies.

She highlighted potential complications associated with repeated Caesarean deliveries, including heavy bleeding, scar tissue and increased surgical challenges.

“Please love yourself. Please protect your health,” she urged, while acknowledging that some women may face pressure from family and society to have more children.

According to her, women who have had multiple Caesarean sections should discuss future pregnancies with their doctors early and make decisions with their safety in mind.

“I don’t want any woman to lose her life trying to give life,” Reginald said.

The post has sparked renewed conversations around maternal health, the importance of antenatal care and the need for women with previous Caesarean deliveries to receive appropriate medical counselling before and during subsequent pregnancies.

Medical experts generally advise that the risks and suitability of another Caesarean delivery should be assessed individually, taking into account a woman’s previous surgeries, overall health and other pregnancy-related factors.

The incident also highlights the continuing need for greater awareness of maternal health and timely access to skilled obstetric care, particularly for women with previous surgical deliveries.

The report is attributed to a social media post by Cynthia Reginald. Details surrounding the hospital, the deceased woman and the specific medical circumstances of her death were not disclosed in the post.
