Arising from the high rate of crime and criminality during the ember months and yuletide period of the year, the  Delta State police command has taken a proactive measure by convening what it called, “a strategic engagement meeting with members of the bankers forum to brainstorm ways to control the influx of people into the state”.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright disclosed this in a press statement that was made available to journalists in Asaba.

The statement reads in part, “The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on 23rd September 2025, in a proactive move, convened a strategic security meeting with members of the bankers’ forum in the state.”

He said the meeting aimed at addressing the security of banks ahead of the yuletide season that is fast approaching.

“The CP, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that it is important for bankers to take adequate security measures to checkmate the activities of criminals who may want to take advantage of the festive period.

He added that “Aware of the fact that the command and Asaba are bounded by the East, Edo, and other parts of the country, it is important for these security strategies to be reviewed”.

“The DCP operations advised that the installation of advanced and functional CCTV cameras in the banking environment is very important to support the effort of the police in monitoring what goes on in the banking environment”.

The DCP reiterated the command’s commitment to the fight against crime and criminality in the state, noting that the meeting is just a tip of the iceberg in the proactive measures being taken by the command to ensure that we have a crime free Ember months.

The Chief security officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, commended the command for this initiative and stated that they don’t release cash to banks that are not armed with an adequate number of policemen on specie escort.
