A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has slammed China for cautioning Washington against a proposed military intervention in Nigeria over alleged genocide against Christians.
Moore criticized Beijing’s warning as an attempt to influence U.S. foreign policy, insisting that America would act in line with its own principles and global security interests, not under external pressure.
“China has no moral authority to lecture the United States on human rights or foreign intervention,” Moore reportedly said, accusing Beijing of hypocrisy and double standards in international affairs.
The lawmaker maintained that any potential U.S. involvement in Nigeria would be driven by the need to protect human rights and prevent further atrocities, not by geopolitical rivalry.
China had earlier warned Washington against taking what it described as “unilateral military actions” in Nigeria, urging dialogue and diplomatic engagement instead.
The development has added a new layer of tension to already strained U.S.–China relations, while also drawing global attention to the ongoing crisis in parts of Nigeria.
