The Executive Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of renowned Nollywood actress and philanthropist, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.
The appointment was formally announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., who said the move reflects the administration’s commitment to leveraging the expertise and influence of distinguished Nigerians to advance its development agenda.
Johnson-Okojie, an accomplished actress, producer, entrepreneur, and humanitarian, is widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures. With a career spanning nearly two decades and appearances in over 200 films, she has received multiple awards and nominations, including recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Beyond her success in the entertainment industry, she is respected for her advocacy and humanitarian efforts through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, where she champions women’s empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach initiatives. She has consistently used her platform to promote civic responsibility and community development.
In her new capacity, Johnson-Okojie is expected to deploy her broad public appeal, communication expertise, and grassroots reach to strengthen citizens’ engagement with government policies and programmes across the state.
According to the statement, the appointment underscores Governor Okpebholo’s vision of building a prosperous and united Edo State by harnessing credibility, public goodwill, and professional excellence in governance.
