A United States district court has sentenced a Nigerian national, Leslie Chinedu Mba, to 228 months (19 years) in prison for his role in a multimillion-dollar romance scam and business email compromise scheme.
According to a report by TheCable, the 40-year-old was handed the sentence by Judge David Hittner after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to make false statements in immigration documents.
Prosecutors said Mba was involved in a fraud operation that defrauded victims of approximately $4 million through online romance scams and deceptive business email tactics.
The court’s ruling brings to a close the case against Mba, who admitted to participating in the criminal conspiracy.
