The Edo State Government has issued a stern warning to all parties involved in the ongoing dispute over traditional leadership in Okpella, urging strict adherence to due process following a recent court ruling.

In a press release signed by Rt. Hon. Festus Ebea, Commissioner for Public Safety and Security, the government emphasized that steps have already been taken by the Attorney General to file an appeal and seek a stay of execution on the judgment.

Pending the outcome of the legal process, the government directed all stakeholders to maintain the status quo to prevent any breakdown of law and order within the community.

The statement made it clear that any form of self-help, including forceful takeover, intimidation, or disruption of the traditional institution will not be tolerated. It warned that such actions are illegal and would attract the full weight of the law.

Reaffirming its commitment to upholding the rule of law, the government stressed that it would not allow any individual or group to undermine the authority of the judiciary. It also disclosed that security agencies have been placed on red alert to respond swiftly to any potential unrest.

The government further called on community members, stakeholders, and groups in Okpella to remain calm, avoid provocative actions, and allow the judicial process to run its course without interference.

The statement concluded with a firm assurance that authorities would act decisively against anyone found threatening public order or the peace and stability of the community.
