Engr. Believe Akpotor Obakpororo, popularly known as “Odonkor,” an aspirant seeking to represent Sapele State Constituency under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has become the subject of public scrutiny following allegations circulating within political circles in Delta State.
A group identified as “Concerned Sapele Residents” has reportedly called on the leadership of the NDC and relevant security agencies to review allegations said to be associated with the aspirant, stressing the need for transparency and credibility in the party’s candidate selection process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the group, concerns were raised over claims linking the aspirant to alleged cyber-related activities. The group urged appropriate authorities to independently verify the claims and ensure due process is followed.
The residents also referenced reports of an alleged dispute involving individuals connected to financial transactions said to have originated outside Nigeria. However, no official court ruling or public confirmation from law enforcement authorities has established any criminal liability against the aspirant.
The group maintained that political parties must uphold integrity by presenting candidates with credible public records, especially as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually intensify.
In a statement circulated in Sapele, members of the group said political institutions must take allegations involving aspirants seriously while also respecting the rights of individuals to fair hearing and presumption of innocence.
They further claimed that security agencies may have previously engaged the aspirant for questioning over related concerns, though no official findings or conclusions have been made public.
According to the residents, the controversy has generated discussions among political stakeholders in Sapele regarding the importance of accountability and public trust in leadership.
“The NDC must ensure that its internal processes reflect transparency and credibility if it hopes to maintain public confidence ahead of the elections,” a member of the group reportedly stated.
As of the time of filing this report, Engr. Believe Akpotor Obakpororo had not publicly responded to the claims, while the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Delta State had yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
Political observers in Sapele believe the development may further shape conversations within the constituency as political activities ahead of 2027 continue to gather momentum.
