The Edo State Road Maintenance Agency (EDROMA) has intensified its pothole elimination campaign across the state, with ongoing asphalt overlay works currently underway at First Federal Avenue in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin City.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Hon. Felix Ibhade, disclosed this while supervising the road rehabilitation project alongside executive directors and a team of engineers.
According to him, several other project sites that have reached stone base level will also receive asphalt overlay once work is completed on First Federal Avenue.
The ongoing rehabilitation works involve cutting and excavation of damaged sections, removal of unsuitable materials, priming of road surfaces, and preparation for the laying of fresh asphalt.
Hon. Ibhade said the agency’s work crews have been operating round the clock, including nighttime operations, to ensure rapid progress and timely delivery of projects. He added that about three to four truckloads of asphalt have already been deployed for the exercise.
He explained that the road maintenance initiative was established under the directive of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, with a mandate to achieve zero potholes across the state within two to three years.
According to the EDROMA boss, the governor’s vision is to ensure that deplorable roads become a thing of the past in Edo State.
“Governor Okpebholo gave us a clear directive — zero potholes in Edo State within two to three years — and we are fully committed to delivering on that promise. Our teams are working day and night despite the challenges posed by the rainy season. The people of Edo deserve better roads, and that is exactly what we are going to give them,” Ibhade stated.
He further highlighted progress made on other roads across the state, noting that rehabilitation works at Ugbetu Avenue off Ihama Road, Boundary Road, Golf Course Road, and the frontage of the 4th Mechanised Brigade have all reached priming level.
He added that work at Judges Quarters Junction and St. Mary’s area near Government House has been completed and is awaiting asphalt overlay, while Benoni Junction in the Elema Palace axis has also been primed.
Although the rainy season has occasionally slowed operations, the agency said work continues during favourable weather conditions to maintain momentum and keep projects on schedule.
The agency appealed to residents for patience and cooperation as efforts continue to deliver safer and smoother roads across Edo State.
The statement was signed by Olotu Henrietta, Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Road Maintenance Agency.
