The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Monday announced Daniella Owoeye as the highest scorer in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), after she emerged with an impressive 372 marks.
Owoeye topped the list of the ten highest-performing candidates nationwide, a feat many have described as a reflection of discipline, strategy, and consistency.
Speaking in an interview with TheCable, the teenager revealed that her preparation was strictly guided by the official JAMB syllabus, which she believes many candidates fail to utilise properly.
According to her, rather than relying on numerous textbooks, she focused on studying topic-by-topic based on areas highlighted by JAMB.
“My preparation was topic-by-topic based. I used the JAMB syllabus, and I feel that’s where many students are missing it and getting it wrong,” she said.
Owoeye explained that she printed hard copies of the syllabus for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, carefully ticking off each topic after studying it thoroughly.
She also disclosed that she combined online tutorials with extensive practice using past questions and Computer-Based Test (CBT) exercises daily.
The top scorer added that she used artificial intelligence tools to simplify bulky notes and improve understanding during her revision.
“I consulted AI to summarise the notes for the parts that seemed bulky, and it was really helpful,” she said.
According to her, she also maintained a personal notebook where she documented mistakes and corrections while preparing for the examination.
Owoeye credited consistency, strategic studying, and regular CBT practice on platforms like QuizBoots for her outstanding performance in the highly competitive examination.
