LAGOS — The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, on Monday joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other top military and government officials at the commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy in Lagos.

The event, which attracted senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, military commanders and distinguished guests, celebrated seven decades of the Nigerian Navy’s contributions to maritime security, national development and regional stability.

President Tinubu, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, attended alongside the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Naval Staff, other Service Chiefs and key stakeholders in the nation’s security architecture.

The anniversary celebration highlighted the Nigerian Navy’s longstanding commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain, combating maritime crime and supporting economic activities within Nigeria’s territorial waters and the Gulf of Guinea.

The event also underscored the importance of inter-service cooperation among the Armed Forces of Nigeria and their collective commitment to defending the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.

As part of activities marking the milestone anniversary, Lieutenant General Shaibu also attended the Nigerian Navy @70 Gala Night, which brought together military leaders, government officials, diplomatic representatives and other stakeholders.

The gala provided an opportunity to celebrate the Navy’s achievements over the past seven decades, honour the sacrifices of its personnel and reaffirm the commitment of security agencies to strengthening collaboration in addressing contemporary security challenges.

The anniversary events served as a reflection on the Nigerian Navy’s legacy of service and its critical role in promoting maritime security, while reinforcing the spirit of jointness and cooperation among the Armed Forces and other security institutions in advancing Nigeria’s national security objectives.
