Former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has declared his total support for Peter Obi, whom he identified as the presidential candidate of the NDC, insisting that he remains loyal to both Obi and the party.

Speaking on the Morning Show on Arise Television, Omo-Agege addressed a number of issues, including allegations made against him by Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The former deputy senate president dismissed claims that he failed to consult Delta State stakeholders before the APC primaries, describing such assertions as false.

According to him, he travelled across the length and breadth of Delta State, engaging party members and stakeholders ahead of the primaries.

Reacting to suggestions that he was no longer politically relevant, Omo-Agege questioned Governor Oborevwori’s decision to move to the APC if he truly considered him no threat.

“I was never alienated from the people. I carried out all the necessary consultations, and the over 240,000 organic supporters I built across Delta State remain firmly with me,” he said.

He further argued that despite changes made to the APC structure in Delta State following Governor Oborevwori’s entry into the party, his support base has remained intact.

Declaring his support for Peter Obi, Omo-Agege said: “Of course, I have endorsed the presidential candidate of the NDC, and he is Peter Obi. I remain loyal to him and the NDC.”

The former governorship candidate also explained that his exit from the APC was driven by political realities, saying he could not remain a “sitting duck” in the party.

He denied reports that he lost the NDC senatorial primary election, maintaining that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is still in the process of ratifying the results.

“I want to dismiss the rumours being peddled and orchestrated by Governor Oborevwori, who is afraid of me politically,” he stated.

On governance in Delta State, Omo-Agege urged the administration to focus on delivering meaningful development and improving the lives of citizens through infrastructure and prudent use of public resources.

He argued that governance should go beyond the construction of flyovers and bridges, stressing that available state resources should be deployed to drive development and positively impact residents.

Omo-Agege also clarified that his support for Peter Obi does not amount to a rejection of President Bola Tinubu’s policies.

“I supported President Tinubu’s policies and I still believe in them. However, I believe Peter Obi, on the NDC platform, can implement policies more effectively. The APC left me,” he said.

He added that his political ambitions and candidacy are not dependent on any court judgment.
