KADUNA — Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected impostor allegedly posing as a retired major general in Kaduna State, in what security observers describe as a significant development amid the nation’s ongoing security challenges.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday at the Strike Force Base located in the Sabo area of Kaduna metropolis.

According to security sources cited by counter-insurgency publication, Zagazola Makama, the individual had allegedly presented himself as a retired senior military officer before his identity was questioned and subsequently verified by military authorities.

Although details surrounding the suspect’s mission and activities remain sketchy, investigations are said to be ongoing to determine his true identity, motives, and whether he may have had links to any criminal or security-related activities.

The arrest comes at a time when Nigeria continues to battle various security threats, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of organized crime across different parts of the country.

Security analysts note that individuals impersonating military personnel or senior government officials pose serious risks to national security, as they can exploit public trust, gain unauthorized access to restricted facilities, gather sensitive information, or facilitate criminal operations.

Military authorities have in recent years intensified efforts to identify and apprehend impostors and unauthorized persons attempting to infiltrate security formations or falsely claim military status.

The Nigerian Army has repeatedly urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals claiming military affiliations without proper identification.

As investigations continue, security agencies are expected to determine whether the suspect acted alone or was part of a wider network involved in impersonation and other unlawful activities.

Further details are expected to emerge as authorities conclude preliminary findings into the case.
