Britain’s King Charles III is set to disclose for the first time how much tax he pays as monarch, in a move aimed at promoting greater transparency and accountability within the Royal Household.

According to a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace, details of the King’s tax contributions will be made public on Thursday as part of efforts to provide greater insight into the monarchy’s finances and strengthen public trust in the institution.

The announcement marks a significant departure from longstanding royal practice, as the personal tax affairs of reigning monarchs have traditionally remained private.

King Charles has long advocated for modernisation and openness within the monarchy. Observers say the decision to publish details of his tax payments reflects a broader effort by Buckingham Palace to demonstrate accountability at a time when public scrutiny of public institutions remains high.

While British monarchs are not legally required to pay income tax, members of the Royal Family have voluntarily made tax payments under arrangements introduced by the late Queen Elizabeth II in the 1990s.

The disclosure is expected to provide fresh insight into the financial responsibilities of the monarch and could set a new benchmark for transparency within the Royal Family.

Further details are expected when Buckingham Palace releases its annual financial report on Thursday.
