President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on his decisive victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a strong endorsement of continuity, stability, and people-centred governance.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commended the people of Ekiti State for their peaceful and orderly conduct during the election, as well as their confidence in Governor Oyebanji’s leadership.
Tinubu also praised law enforcement agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process, contributing to a peaceful and credible exercise.
The President further charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sustain efforts towards conducting free, fair, peaceful, and credible elections ahead of the Osun State governorship election in August and the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, Oyebanji’s victory is historic, as he has become the first governor in Ekiti State since the return to democratic rule in 1999 to secure consecutive re-election victories.
President Tinubu noted that the governor’s first term recorded significant achievements in infrastructure development, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare, and rural development under the BAO Agenda.
“The renewed mandate is a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability, and people-centred governance,” the President stated.
He urged the governor to remain magnanimous in victory and continue to carry all segments of the state along as he builds on the achievements of his first term.
Tinubu also commended other candidates who participated in the election, describing their participation as an important contribution to the democratic process. He called on all political actors to unite behind the governor in advancing the development of Ekiti State.
The President reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the Ekiti State Government to deliver more dividends of democracy and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda across the country.
He also prayed for wisdom, strength, and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he begins another term in office.
Governor Oyebanji was declared winner of the governorship election after securing a landslide victory, earning a renewed mandate from the electorate to continue leading the state for another four years.
