ABUJA, June 26, 2026 – Global payments technology company Mastercard has commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu for fostering greater macroeconomic stability through what it described as a strong alignment between fiscal and monetary policies.

The commendation came from Mastercard’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Miebach, during a visit to President Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, where he led a delegation of senior executives to discuss the company’s expanding operations and future investments in Nigeria.

Miebach, who established Mastercard’s Nigerian operations in 2011, praised the government’s ongoing economic reforms, noting that improved policy coordination is creating a more stable and attractive environment for investment.

Highlighting Mastercard’s contributions to the Nigerian economy, the CEO disclosed that the company currently helps prevent approximately $200 million in fraud annually while facilitating about $2 billion in foreign exchange inflows into the country.

As part of its commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, Mastercard unveiled plans to deepen its partnership with the Federal Government through strategic investments aimed at strengthening cybersecurity, digital inclusion, and business development.

Among the proposals presented to President Tinubu is the establishment of a Cyber Centre of Excellence that would support the collection and sharing of threat intelligence, enhance cyber resilience, and help manage emerging risks associated with artificial intelligence and digital technologies.

The company also announced plans to launch a three-year initiative designed to equip five million Nigerian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with digital skills, enabling them to participate more effectively in the growing digital economy.

Responding to the proposals, President Tinubu welcomed Mastercard’s continued interest in Nigeria and expressed support for initiatives that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.

The President described Nigeria’s youthful population as one of the country’s greatest assets, noting that young Nigerians are highly innovative, technologically savvy, and capable of competing successfully in the global digital marketplace.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses and investors while leveraging technology to drive economic growth, financial inclusion, and job creation.

The meeting underscores growing confidence among global investors in Nigeria’s economic reform agenda and highlights the country’s increasing importance as a hub for digital innovation and financial technology in Africa.
