The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has commenced the review of the 2025 Report of the Auditor-General (State) on the Accounts of the Delta State Government, reaffirming the legislature’s commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.
Declaring the exercise open at the Assembly Complex in Asaba, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. James Augoye, Ph.D., said the review was in fulfilment of the committee’s constitutional oversight responsibility to scrutinise government financial records and ensure proper utilisation of public funds.
“This exercise is an annual constitutional responsibility aimed at promoting accountability, transparency and fiscal discipline in the management of state resources. It is not a witch-hunt, but a professional engagement designed to strengthen public financial management and ensure that due process is followed,” Hon. Augoye stated.
The Committee Chairman explained that the review would carefully examine the Auditor-General’s findings for the year ended December 31, 2025, and compare them with financial records submitted by Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance with extant financial regulations.
Hon. Augoye, who was joined by committee members including Hon. Spencer Owhofa, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, Hon. Frank Esenwa and Hon. Bernard Odior, stressed the need for all MDAs to adhere strictly to established financial guidelines and global best practices in public sector accounting.
“Our objective is to ensure that every observation contained in the Auditor-General’s report is properly addressed and reconciled with the records of the affected MDAs. This process is vital to strengthening public confidence in government financial administration,” he added.
In his remarks, the Acting Auditor-General of the State, Mr. Matthew Emasogbe, assured the committee of his office’s full cooperation throughout the review process.
He noted that the 2025 audit report was prepared meticulously in line with statutory requirements and expressed confidence that the exercise would proceed smoothly.
“We have ensured that the accounts of the Delta State Government for the 2025 financial year were comprehensively captured in the report, and we are committed to providing every necessary support to facilitate a seamless review,” Mr. Emasogbe said.
The review exercise is expected to provide the House with the basis for making recommendations that will further strengthen financial accountability, transparency and good governance across government institutions in Delta State.
