Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reportedly called on members and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to work towards unseating Governor Ademola Adeleke in the forthcoming governorship election.
Speaking during a political engagement in Osun State as part of the APC’s campaign activities ahead of the governorship poll scheduled for next week, Okpebholo was quoted as saying that Governor Adeleke is a friend of former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
According to the statement attributed to him, Okpebholo said: “Governor Adeleke is Obaseki’s friend. You know we kicked Obaseki out of Edo. We have to kick his friend, Adeleke, out of Osun too.”
The remarks, which have attracted reactions in political circles, were reportedly made while the Edo governor addressed APC supporters during a solidarity visit aimed at galvanising support for the party’s candidate ahead of the election.
The APC has intensified its campaign across Osun State in the final days before the governorship election, with party leaders and governors from APC-controlled states participating in rallies and mobilisation efforts.
As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official response from Governor Ademola Adeleke or the Osun State Government regarding the statement attributed to Governor Okpebholo.
