Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reported intervention in the release of Osun State Government’s bank accounts, describing the moment as “history.”
In a post shared on his social media platforms, Davido wrote: “I was there live and witnessed history,” referring to a reported telephone conversation between President Tinubu and Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
According to reports, President Tinubu directed that the state’s bank accounts, which had reportedly been frozen by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in connection with ongoing investigations, be unfrozen to enable the Osun State Government carry out its constitutional responsibilities, including the payment of workers’ salaries and the delivery of essential public services.
The reported presidential intervention is said to have followed concerns that the restriction on the accounts was affecting governance and the smooth running of government activities in the state.
Davido’s post quickly gained traction on social media, with many users interpreting it as confirmation that he was present when the President placed the call to Governor Adeleke, who is also his uncle.
Neither the Presidency nor the EFCC had immediately issued a detailed public statement on the reported directive at the time of filing this report. However, the development has generated widespread reactions from political stakeholders and members of the public.
If confirmed, the release of the accounts is expected to ease financial pressures on the Osun State Government and allow it to continue implementing its programmes and meeting its obligations to residents.
