Reactions have continued to trail the victory of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following his declaration as winner of the August 15 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Supporters, residents of the state and other Nigerians took to social media to celebrate the outcome, with many describing the election as a victory for democracy and the people of Osun State.
A major focus of the reactions was Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, who openly supported his uncle, Governor Adeleke, throughout the election period.
Some Nigerians praised the singer for what they described as his unwavering support for the governor and his vocal interventions on issues surrounding the election.
One social media user described the outcome as “a people’s victory,” praising Davido for allegedly monitoring the electoral process and speaking out on issues involving the Federal Government, INEC and security agencies.
The user wrote: “Osun chose courage over fear. Congratulations, Governor Ademola Adeleke. Congratulations, people of Osun. Democracy won because you stood guard.”
Another commenter hailed Davido for his role, writing: “Davido, you try ooo, make raise that vibes for 2027.”
Some supporters went further, jokingly describing the singer as the “president of all well-meaning Nigerian youths” because of his support for his uncle during the election.
“Kudos to Osun people, kudos to the Adelekes and kudos to all Nigerians,” another user wrote.
Others celebrated the Adelekes’ family bond, noting that Davido made time to support his uncle despite his busy schedule.
One commenter said the election demonstrated the importance of family support, adding that the singer’s involvement showed that Nigerians, particularly youths, could achieve more when they stood together.
There were also humorous reactions, with some social media users demanding the money allegedly promised by individuals who had wagered that Adeleke would lose the election.
One commenter wrote: “No be by mouth ooo, I don already position myself for the alert. That guy wey dey make noise say if dem no ‘smoke Adeleke out,’ he go share ₦1 million—abeg, I dey wait for my own share oooo!”
Another joked: “I beg send my account to those Edo boys who say they will give out 1m each to five persons if Adeleke win. 2027 no far, na test running be this.”
However, not everyone credited Davido’s intervention to concern for the people of Osun. One commenter argued that the singer’s active participation was largely driven by his family’s political interests and the stakes surrounding the Adeleke political dynasty.
Despite the differing opinions, several commenters congratulated Governor Adeleke and described his victory as a triumph for the electorate.
“Historic winning, congratulations Gov Adeleke. The people’s choice. Leave am with him, dance where are those saying he will not win,” another user wrote.
Others referenced Adeleke’s reputation for dancing, with one commenter saying: “Congratulations to the dancing governor. How do good don good finish.”
Davido also received calls to sustain what supporters described as his political engagement, with some already looking ahead to the 2027 general elections.
“Davido for youth president in Nigeria,” one user wrote, while another described him as “001 for a big reason.”
The reactions also extended to the wider political implications of the Osun election, with some commenters describing Adeleke’s victory as a significant result for opposition politics under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The first election an opposition won since Tinubu became president of Nigeria,” one commenter claimed.
Another called on other political figures to learn from the Osun outcome, saying the election demonstrated the power of the people’s mandate.
As celebrations continue, the outcome has generated intense debate online over the role of celebrity influence, family solidarity, youth participation and the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
For many of Adeleke’s supporters, however, the message remains simple: the people have spoken, and their preferred candidate has emerged victorious.
