Veteran Nollywood actress and cleric, Eucharia Anunobi, has shared candid views on financial responsibility in relationships, stressing that many men derive a strong sense of identity and fulfillment from being able to provide for their partners.
Speaking during an interview on the The Honest Bunch Podcast, the actress-turned-pastor said that financial independence is an important part of how many men perceive their role within a relationship.
According to her, a man’s ability to earn and support his household contributes significantly to his sense of completeness. “There’s no man that feels like he is a complete man when a woman is feeding him,” she said during the conversation, explaining that many men naturally desire to take on the role of provider.
Dr. Anunobi noted that when a man depends entirely on a woman’s income, it can affect his self-perception. “It is expedient for a man to have his own money, because if he says he wants to depend on my own money, then he will feel less than a man,” she stated.
The cleric also highlighted some of the practical responsibilities she believes men should be prepared to handle in relationships, including paying rent, covering utility bills, and providing food for the household. She said these responsibilities often form part of the traditional expectations placed on men.
While acknowledging that many women today are financially independent, the actress said that the desire to be cared for by a partner remains common. According to her, even women who are financially successful still appreciate gestures of provision and support from their partners.
She explained that such acts often symbolize love, commitment, and responsibility in relationships, adding that the emotional value of being cared for can go beyond financial capability.
Anunobi’s comments have since sparked conversations online about gender roles, financial independence, and expectations within modern relationships.
