WARRI — Elders, leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta South Senatorial District have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and other candidates of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party stakeholders made the declaration at the Delta South APC Senatorial District Mega Meeting of leaders, elders and stakeholders held on Thursday in Warri, where they also resolved to close ranks, reconcile aggrieved members and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures across the district.
The leaders said the APC must convert the growing support for the party into actual votes at the polls, declaring their determination to make Delta South a dominant political force in the state.
Speaking at the meeting, the senator representing Delta South, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, urged party leaders and members to return to their wards, units and communities to mobilise voters for the APC.
He said the party’s primary objective was to secure victory in the 2027 elections through collective effort and effective grassroots mobilisation.
“The task before us is victory. We have a responsibility to work together, mobilise our people and ensure that our party produces the maximum votes in the forthcoming elections.”
Thomas also appealed to APC candidates to remain committed to the party and avoid actions capable of creating divisions, stressing that there was no room for complacency.
He urged party members to take the achievements of the Tinubu administration and the Oborevwori-led Delta State Government to the grassroots, saying the electorate needed to be properly informed about the performance of the governments.
‘Delta South will do better’
Also speaking, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, said the political landscape in Delta South was changing, with renewed interest in the electoral process among youths and leaders across the various ethnic nationalities in the district.
Guwor challenged party members to ensure that all 87 wards in Delta South delivered massively for the APC in 2027.
“Delta South will do better than before. We are determined to make Delta South the highest-performing senatorial district in Delta State,” he said.
The Speaker called for support for APC candidates at the National and State Assembly levels, including Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko, Basil Ganagana and others.
He said the growing unity among APC leaders and stakeholders remained a major advantage that must be sustained ahead of the elections.
APC vows to reclaim Delta South
The State Chairman of the APC, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, said the party was determined to restore Delta South to its position as a major political force in the state.
Arenyeka recalled the district’s political history, particularly since 1989, noting that Delta South had historically played a significant role in the state’s politics but had lost some ground to Delta North in recent years.
He therefore urged party leaders and members across the various ethnic nationalities and local government areas to unite and rebuild the party’s structures.
He called for intensified mobilisation in Warri South-West, Warri North, Warri South, Isoko North, Isoko South, Bomadi, Burutu, Patani and other parts of the senatorial district.
Arenyeka reaffirmed the APC’s support for President Tinubu, Governor Oborevwori, its senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates, urging members to work collectively towards their victory.
Party seeks reconciliation after primaries
In his welcome remarks, the Delta South APC Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba, identified reconciliation and unity as critical to the party’s chances in 2027, particularly following the conclusion of its primaries.
Amgbaduba appealed to members who were aggrieved over the primaries to put their differences aside and use the party’s internal dispute-resolution mechanisms to resolve outstanding issues.
He also urged candidates who emerged from the primaries to reach out to their former opponents, seek reconciliation and build inclusive campaign structures.
According to him, the party’s campaign should focus on communicating the achievements of APC-led governments to voters, particularly in infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic development and empowerment programmes targeting women, youths and the elderly.
The Delta South chairman further directed local government party chairmen to maintain close communication with the state leadership and promptly address emerging issues in their respective areas.
Stakeholders rally behind APC candidates
The meeting attracted several prominent APC leaders and stakeholders, including Senator Stella Omu; Senator James Manager; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Johnson Erijo; Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors; Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor, State Organising Secretary of the APC; Mrs Ifeyinwa Sobotie, State Women Leader; and members of the National and State Assemblies, among others.
In their goodwill messages, Chief Bernard Okumagba, representing the Urhobo; Hon. Daniel Reyenieju, representing the Itsekiri; Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, representing the Ijaw; and Chief Ovuozourie Macaulay, representing the Isoko, called on party members to remain united and work for the success of all APC candidates in 2027.
The stakeholders identified unity, reconciliation, grassroots mobilisation and effective communication of government achievements as key to the party’s success.
They subsequently charged APC leaders and members across Delta South to return to their respective wards and units, mobilise voters and ensure that the renewed momentum translates into a decisive electoral victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.
