KWALE, Delta State — Women and children across Ndokwa Nation have received a major healthcare boost as the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU) Women Wing, in collaboration with the You Matter Charity Foundation, the pet project of the First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, organised a free and comprehensive medical outreach in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state.
The outreach, held at the General Hospital, Kwale, was organised as a pre-conference activity and brought together women from Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East and Ukwuani Local Government Areas for free medical screening, diagnosis, consultations and administration of drugs.
Speaking at the event, the National Women Leader of the NNU Women Wing, Barrister Mrs. Cynthia Oputa-Governor, Ph.D, who represented the First Lady of Delta State, expressed appreciation to the collaborating foundation and other stakeholders for their support towards improving the health and welfare of women and children in Ndokwa Nation.
She noted that access to quality healthcare remained critical to the economic wellbeing of communities, stressing that improving the health of the people would also contribute significantly to poverty reduction and economic development.
“Since good health is an essential part of economic infrastructure, we are therefore partnering today not only to screen, diagnose and administer drugs, but also to join hands in promoting the economic health of Ndokwa people and, invariably, fighting poverty more aggressively,” she said.
According to her, the initiative marked a significant milestone as one of the first comprehensive and free medical outreaches organised in Ndokwa Nation through the collaboration of a frontline socio-cultural organisation and the pet project of the First Lady of Delta State.
She described the partnership between the NNU Women Wing and You Matter Charity Foundation as a demonstration of what could be achieved through collaboration, philanthropy and purposeful leadership.
Oputa-Governor further expressed optimism that the medical intervention would be sustained and expanded in the future through wider partnerships involving government, private organisations, medical professionals and philanthropic bodies.
She also commended the First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, for her commitment to the welfare of women and children across the state, describing her as a major inspiration behind the NNU Women Wing’s healthcare intervention.
The NNU Women Leader equally appreciated the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Delta State Chapter, for partnering with the women of Ndokwa Nation, describing the collaboration as an important step towards building a healthier society through collective philanthropy.
She said the large turnout of beneficiaries demonstrated the people’s need for accessible and affordable healthcare services.
Addressing journalists at the venue, Oputa-Governor explained that the outreach was specifically designed to cater to women from the three local government areas that make up the Ndokwa/Ukwuani axis.
“We are here in Ndokwa Nation, precisely at the General Hospital, Kwale, to carry out the Ndokwa Women Medical Outreach. The programme is organised by the Ndokwa Neku Union Women Wing in collaboration with You Matter Charity Foundation, where everybody is somebody,” she said.
She added that the initiative was inspired by the First Lady’s commitment to improving the welfare of women and children in Delta State.
The National Women Leader subsequently declared the medical outreach open, saying:
“In line with the mandate conferred on me by Her Excellency, Mother of Delta State, and the administrative protocol of the NNU Women Wing, I hereby declare this medical outreach open.”
Beneficiaries Commend NNU Women Wing, First Lady
Some beneficiaries and residents who spoke with journalists expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the outreach as a timely intervention that had provided relief to many families.
One beneficiary, speaking on behalf of residents of Ndokwa West, thanked the First Lady for her benevolence and health-focused programmes.
“On behalf of the entire inhabitants of Ndokwa West Local Government, we want to say thank you to Her Excellency for her benevolence and health-driven programmes,” the beneficiary said.
Another beneficiary commended the National Women Leader of the NNU Women Wing for what she described as purposeful leadership and commitment to the wellbeing of the people.
“As you can see, the women are happy because there is a sense of belonging as a result of purposeful leadership and credibility. She is concerned about our health and has brought the outreach to the doorstep of the people,” the beneficiary said.
A participant also praised the teamwork displayed by the NNU Women Wing and the medical personnel, describing the organisation and delivery of the programme as worthy of commendation.
“I am impressed by the NNU Women Wing teamwork and the way the medical personnel are discharging their responsibilities and duties. This is worthy of commendation. Kudos to the Women Wing,” the participant said.
Another recipient appealed to the NNU Women Wing leadership to make the medical programme a regular intervention in Ndokwa Nation.
The beneficiary also prayed for God’s guidance and called for continued financial and institutional support from the Delta State Government and other stakeholders to enable the initiative reach more people.
The pre-conference free medical outreach in Kwale is part of efforts by the NNU Women Wing and its partners to deepen healthcare intervention, promote preventive healthcare and improve the wellbeing of women and children across Ndokwa Nation.
