Abuja — Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has disclosed that the Federal Government has thrown its full weight behind the proposed Edo Air initiative, following a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, in Abuja.

Governor Okpebholo said the meeting focused on strategic discussions aimed at reviving and strengthening Edo State’s aviation sector through the planned launch of Edo Air.

According to him, the initiative is designed to boost economic activities, enhance tourism, improve regional connectivity, and position Edo State as a competitive hub for business and leisure.

“Edo Air is a deliberate step towards strengthening our aviation ecosystem and accelerating economic growth. It aligns with our broader vision of attracting investment, expanding infrastructure, and opening up Edo State to greater opportunities,” the governor said.

The Aviation Minister, Mr. Keyamo, during the engagement, reportedly recalled Benin City’s historic role as a major aviation hub, particularly during the era of the now-defunct Okada Air, and commended the Edo State Government for its forward-looking approach to reviving the sector.

Governor Okpebholo noted that the minister assured the state of the Federal Government’s full support toward the successful actualisation of the Edo Air project.

“This engagement further underscores the strong collaboration between Edo State and the Federal Government as we continue to pursue infrastructure development and economic transformation for the benefit of our people,” he added.

The proposed Edo Air initiative is expected to play a key role in driving growth across critical sectors while improving air travel access within Edo State and beyond.
