President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, for Nigeria after ending his working vacation, with his aircraft expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later today.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, widely associated with Nigeria’s June 12, 1993 presidential election.
Onanuga said the President would attend the Independence Day premiere of a movie honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The presidential aide added that Tinubu would also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates in Lagos in the coming days as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
Tinubu had departed Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending a week in London before proceeding to Paris.
While in Paris, the President attended a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and held meetings with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose media and digital interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group, according to the statement.
On Monday, Tinubu also met with the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola.
The Presidency said the President last week witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of a Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone in the area.
According to the statement, DP World, a global ports and logistics operator, plans to invest $7 billion in the proposed seaport and economic zone.
Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after completing his engagements in Lagos, Onanuga said.
