The Edo State Government is set to commission its first 50 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in a move aimed at modernising public transportation and providing residents with more affordable and sustainable mobility options.

According to the Edo New Media Office, the commissioning ceremony will take place at Garrick Memorial, Ekenhuan Road, Benin City, at 9:00 a.m.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to perform the commissioning, marking what the state government describes as a significant step towards transforming the state’s transportation sector.

The initiative is expected to usher in a new phase of public transportation in Edo State, with the introduction of CNG-powered buses aimed at promoting affordability, efficiency and environmental sustainability.

The development comes under the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo, whose government has reiterated its commitment to moving Edo State forward through initiatives designed to improve public services and infrastructure.

In its announcement, the Edo New Media Office urged residents to participate in the historic event, describing the initiative as part of the state’s drive towards a new era of development.

“Edo is Moving Forward! A New Edo Has Risen!” the office declared.

The commissioning is scheduled for Thursday, October 15, at Garrick Memorial, Ekenhuan Road, Benin City.
