The political atmosphere in Delta State has continued to generate heated reactions following the resignation of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omo-Agege’s exit from the ruling party came shortly after the conclusion of the Delta Central Senatorial District primaries, a development many political observers say could reshape the political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Deltans and political stakeholders have since taken to various platforms to express mixed opinions over the senator’s decision, with some applauding the move while others described it as coming too late.
Some supporters urged the former lawmaker to immediately join another political platform and continue his political ambition.
“It is unfortunate they treated the distinguished senator badly. I suggest he joins the PRP or ADC immediately as a member and prepare for supplementary primaries. That is the way to go for him now,” a supporter said.
Another loyalist wrote, “Anywhere you go, we go. Tinubu will hear from us through the ballots. Your Excellency Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, this is the right move.”
Others argued that the former Deputy Senate President should have left the APC much earlier.
“Obarisi is a very patient man. He would have resigned earlier when the President handed over the party structure to the governor without proper consultation,” another respondent stated.
Several reactions also encouraged Omo-Agege not to withdraw from active politics in Delta State.
“Good decision. Do not allow political scavengers push you away from Delta politics. Get another platform and contest,” another commentator said.
However, some critics questioned the timing of the resignation, expressing doubts about his chances of securing another party platform before the next elections.
“It came too late. I doubt if there is still enough time to register and contest for any elective position in the 2027 general elections,” one reaction read.
Another respondent said, “Good move, but it came very late. Nevertheless, we are behind you.”
While supporters continued to rally around the former senator, others maintained that political realities and internal party challenges may have contributed to the development.
