Vice-President Kashim Shettima has taken a swipe at former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar over his repeated references to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by his first name, Bola.
Shettima made the remarks on Wednesday during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Vice-President stressed that no matter how Atiku chose to address Tinubu, his position as Nigeria’s President remained unchanged. He noted that Tinubu was not only the country’s leader but also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Shettima’s comments appeared to be a response to Atiku’s habit of referring to the President simply as “Bola” in his public remarks, a style of address that has drawn attention amid the political rivalry between the two camps.
The Vice-President’s statement underscored the importance of Tinubu’s constitutional office, suggesting that personal references to the President do not diminish the authority attached to his position.
The remarks come against the backdrop of ongoing political exchanges between the ruling APC and opposition figures, as both sides continue to defend their positions on national leadership and governance.
