Adeleke Alleges EFCC Plot to Freeze Osun Government Accounts Ahead of August 15 Governorship Election

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is planning to freeze all accounts belonging to the Osun State Government ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The governor made the allegation in a statement issued on Wednesday in Osogbo by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, on behalf of the state government.

According to the statement, Adeleke said he had received what he described as “credible reports” indicating that the anti-graft agency had concluded plans to freeze the state’s accounts. He further alleged that the move would also extend to the personal accounts of top government officials serving in his administration.

The governor expressed concern that such an action, if implemented, would significantly disrupt governance by preventing the state government from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

He warned that freezing the government’s accounts would delay the execution of public programmes, hinder the payment of obligations, and negatively affect the delivery of essential services to residents across the state.

Describing the alleged plan as a serious threat to democratic governance, Adeleke argued that the timing of the move just days before the August 15 governorship election raised concerns about possible political motives.

“If true, such a plan amounts to the height of lawlessness and is clearly designed to paralyse government activities ahead of the governorship election,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC had not issued any official response to the allegations.
