Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State officially joined the Accord Party in a dramatic political shift announced just as his wife, First Lady Titilola Adeleke, celebrated her 60th (Diamond) birthday.
In a statement accompanying his defection, the governor explained that he joined Accord because its welfare-oriented agenda aligns with his administration’s commitment to citizen and workers’ welfare — a mission he has repeatedly stressed.
The timing of the move — coinciding with the First Lady’s milestone birthday — did not go unnoticed. Many have suggested that the defection also symbolises a tribute, or ‘gift’, to Mrs. Adeleke, underscoring a union of personal celebration and political recalibration.
Meanwhile, the First Lady of the Federal Republic, Oluremi Tinubu, took the opportunity to congratulate Mrs. Adeleke on turning 60. In a heartfelt message on her X account, she lauded Mrs. Adeleke’s work through the Renewed Hope Initiative, calling her contributions to improving the lives of Osun residents impactful and transformative.

“I join your husband … your children, family, friends, and loved ones to celebrate you as you mark this milestone,” Tinubu said. “I celebrate your commitment to uplifting the good people of Osun State through the Renewed Hope Initiative, where you continue to touch many lives.”
The convergence of Mrs. Adeleke’s birthday and the governor’s new political trajectory paints a picture of a couple marking both personal and public milestones — blending family celebration with a fresh political beginning ahead of the 2026 governorship race.
