The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to confront Nigeria’s worsening security crisis with urgency, diplomacy, and firm leadership.
Speaking after the November Holy Ghost Service of the church, themed “The Eve of Glory,” Pastor Adeboye emphasized the sanctity of human life and called on the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to the nation’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorist groups or face dismissal.
The revered cleric recalled offering similar counsel to the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, lamenting that while some progress was made, the efforts were not sustained to achieve lasting peace.
Adeboye also urged the Tinubu administration to expose and prosecute the sponsors of terrorism and insurgency, regardless of their social or political influence.
In response to concerns recently raised by U.S. President Donald Trump, Adeboye appealed to President Tinubu to act swiftly and diplomatically by seeking a 100-day grace period from the U.S. government before any international action is taken against Nigeria. He advised that this window should be used decisively to eradicate terrorism nationwide.
“In my usual quiet way, I have related with all the presidents who were around when this trouble started,” Adeboye said.
“You can only advise the Commander-in-Chief — you can’t command him. But if I were to make suggestions, I’d say: move fast, move diplomatically, move wisely. Convince the U.S. President to delay his actions for about 100 days, then come home and tell our security chiefs to get rid of the terrorists within 90 days or resign.”
Adeboye recalled that President Buhari once issued a similar directive during his tenure, noting that while the idea was sound, it lacked consistent follow-up.
“There was a president — unfortunately, he’s dead now — Buhari, who issued such an order. He is not here to tell you who gave him that advice. He acted on it but didn’t follow through,” Adeboye remarked.
He concluded by urging President Tinubu to ensure that the war against terrorism also targets those funding and supporting violent groups, saying no one should be spared, no matter how powerful.
