President Bola Tinubu has directed security agencies to launch an urgent and coordinated operation to rescue the 25 female students abducted from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, confirmed that the President issued the order immediately after receiving intelligence on the early Monday morning attack.
Gunmen stormed the school premises at dawn, abducting the students in a manner that has once again revived painful memories of the 2014 Chibok girls saga, when Boko Haram militants kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls in Borno State. The Chibok abduction drew global outrage and remains one of Nigeria’s darkest moments, with some victims still missing more than a decade later.
During Monday’s attack, Hassan Makuku, the school’s vice principal, was killed, while Ali Shehu, a security guard, sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand. Kebbi police spokesperson, Nafi’u Kotarkoshi, confirmed the casualties and said joint security forces had begun tracking the attackers.
The President, according to Idris, vowed that Nigeria must never again relive the horrors of Chibok and stressed that every necessary resource will be deployed to ensure the safe return of the Kebbi schoolgirls.
