Gunmen on Tuesday attacked officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, making away with electoral materials, including PVCs and BVAS machines.
The incident occurred at Oyinlola DC Primary School, Ward 2, where INEC officials were conducting the ongoing PVC distribution exercise.
According to the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, about 10 suspected thugs stormed the venue, disrupted the exercise, and forcibly carted away three packs of Permanent Voter Cards as well as Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices.
The attack caused panic among election officials and residents in the area, while security operatives have reportedly launched an investigation to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen electoral materials.
The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible and ensure the safety of electoral personnel and materials ahead of the elections.
