The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Wednesday officially launched the Pre-Igue Festival Medical Outreach at the Oba Palace, King Square, Benin City.
The ceremony was held in the presence of representatives of His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, CFR, who conveyed the monarch’s support for the initiative.

Speaking on behalf of UBTH Management, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia N. Ize-Iyamu, expressed profound appreciation to His Royal Majesty for granting the palace grounds as the venue for the outreach. She noted that the gesture reflects the Oba’s enduring commitment to the health and wellbeing of the people of the Benin Kingdom.

Prof. Ize-Iyamu also welcomed residents who gathered for the event, explaining that the outreach is an integral part of UBTH’s Corporate Social Responsibility, designed to extend quality healthcare beyond hospital facilities to communities that may face financial, geographic, or social barriers to care.

As part of the ceremony, the CMD presented a First Aid Box to the Palace, symbolizing the hospital’s ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and community health support.

Following the opening declaration, residents received a range of services including health checks, consultations, screenings, and medications. The two-day engagement underscores UBTH’s dedication to promoting accessible healthcare and strengthening community wellbeing.
