The Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Peace and Security, Hon (Dr) Isaac Anwuzia, has said that the State Assembly is committed to providing the necessary legislative support and oversight to ensure that security agencies perform optimally in the state.

Hon Anwuzia gave the assurance when he led members of the Committee to the Delta State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), in continuation of the committee’s oversight visits to security agencies in the state.

The Lawmaker who represents Aniocha South in the House, explained that the various security related bills and motions passed by the 8th Delta Assembly were testament to the resolve of the House on enhancing peace and security in Delta State and would not relent in that regard.

Flanked by Honourables Emmanuel Sinebe and Festus Utuama, Anwuzia commended the NSCDC for its efforts in maintaining peace and security in the state and expressed his Committee’s commitment to supporting their work.

The Chairman encouraged the Command to adopt more tactical approach in its operations, including strategies for preventing and responding to security threats, and collaboration with other security agencies.

Hon Anwuzia explained that the oversight visit to headquarters of security agencies in the state is a constitutional duty, even as he reiterated the Committee’s willingness to ensuring that the NSCDC has the necessary framework to effectively carry out its mandate in Delta State.

He said “this visit is a part of the Committee’s statutory oversight and engagement functions aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration with security agencies towards promoting peace, stability, and protection of lives and property within the state.

“I must commend the Commandant and officers of the NSCDC for their unwavering commitment to maintaining internal security, protecting critical national assets, and fostering community peace initiatives across Delta State.

“The importance of inter-agency collaboration cannot be overemphasized. I assure you of the Committee’s legislative support in addressing operational challenges faced by the Corps.

“The Delta State House of Assembly remains committed to enacting and reviewing laws that will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of security agencies operating within the state”, Anwuzia asserted.

In his remarks, the Commandant, Delta State Command of the NSCDC, Mr Chinedu Igbo, briefed the Lawmakers on the Command’s operational activities, highlighting areas of success and challenges.

The Commandant called for stakeholders support, including the Delta State Assembly on the Command’s efforts to improve its operations in the state.

“I wish to express appreciation to the Committee for the visit, even as I seek for continuous support of the State Legislature in the area of security sector development”, Agbo stated.

The highpoint of the visit was exchange of souvenirs.
