Delta State House of Assembly Service Commission has intensified efforts toward building more efficient. productive and focused driven legislative workforce with the commencement of a refresher course for sixty members of staff ahead of the forthcoming promotion exercise.
The training programme, organised for top and middle management personnel of the State Legislature, is aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency, strengthening institutional capacity, and equipping staff with contemporary skills required for effective legislative support services.
Flagging off the exercise, Chairman of the Commission, Mr Sunday Ebireri, said the initiative reflects the Commission’s unwavering commitment for continuous staff development and improved service delivery within the legislative bureaucracy.
According to him, regular training and retraining programmes remain critical to sustaining a modern and dynamic workforce capable of meeting the evolving demands of legislative governance.
“The vision of this Commission is to build a contemporary, responsive, and highly professional workforce that can effectively drive the legislative process. This can only be achieved through consistent capacity-building programmes designed to sharpen the knowledge and skills of our personnel,” Ebireri stated.
The Commission Chairman explained that the refresher course forms part of the prerequisites for the next round of staff promotion exercises, noting that it would not only prepare participants adequately for greater responsibilities but also serve as a morale booster.
“Promotion should go beyond mere elevation in rank; it should reflect competence, preparedness, and commitment to duty. This training is therefore designed to reposition staff for higher productivity and excellence in service,” he added.
Mr Ebireri commended the lead facilitators, Hospitrane Consortium, for partnering with the Commission to deliver the training, while urging participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to broaden their knowledge base and improve workplace performance.
Secretary of the Commission, Mr Austine Uwasike in his remarks, urged staff to reciprocate the gesture by maximizing the opportunity provided by the training and commended the State government for prioritizing staff welfare.
Some participants who spoke during the programme expressed appreciation to the Commission for sustaining a culture of training and retraining, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.
They noted that the exercise would greatly enhance staff confidence and operational efficiency within the Assembly system.
“This programme has exposed us to new administrative strategies and modern workplace ethics that will undoubtedly improve our productivity,” a participant said.
The respondents commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor and the leadership of the Service Commission for their sustained commitment to staff development, and institutional growth.
The event reached its highpoint with the presentation of a souvenir to the Commission Chairman, Mr Ebireri in recognition of his outstanding contributions to staff welfare and workforce development in the State Legislature.
