The Delta State Government has empowered 320 women entrepreneurs with a total of ₦48 million under the MORE Cap-Up Empowerment Programme, a strategic initiative aimed at boosting women-led enterprises across the state.

The event, which took place on Tuesday at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, was flagged off by the Wife of the Governor and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Oborevwori described the initiative as “a transformative step designed by the Delta State Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (DEMSMEDA) to uplift women in the creative industry, particularly those in rural communities.”

She disclosed that each of the 320 beneficiaries had been carefully selected and trained in financial literacy and business sustainability, adding that they would each receive a capitalization grant of ₦150,000 to grow their ventures.

“This is more than support; it’s an investment in dreams, families, and communities,” Mrs. Oborevwori stated. “The programme reflects the vision and compassion of my dear husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whose MORE Agenda continues to open doors of opportunity by strengthening entrepreneurs and empowering lives.”

She urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grants, emphasizing the need to “innovate boldly and remain resilient” in their business pursuits, noting that their success would translate into shared prosperity for all Deltans.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of DEMSMEDA, Dr. Godwin Adolor, commended Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering commitment to the empowerment of women and small-scale business owners.

He explained that the programme underscores the state government’s resolve to foster inclusive economic growth through innovation, enterprise, and targeted support for women in the creative sector.

“We are investing in the potential of rural women to transform their local economies,” Adolor said. “With the right support, these women can become catalysts for sustainable development and social progress in their communities.”

Some beneficiaries who spoke at the event expressed gratitude to the state government for the gesture, pledging to deploy the funds responsibly to grow their businesses and create employment opportunities within their localities.

The MORE Cap-Up Empowerment Programme is part of ongoing efforts under Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda to build capacity, stimulate entrepreneurship, and promote financial inclusion across Delta State.
