The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development and security through major policy initiatives ahead of the 2025 fiscal year.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved an increase in rural road funding from ₦1.billion per local government area in 2024 to ₦2.1 billion in 2025, with a further rise to ₦5 billion projected for 2026, a move that underscores his administration’s commitment to enhancing rural connectivity and boosting economic productivity.

“Our focus is to ensure that every community, regardless of size or population, enjoys access to basic infrastructure,” said Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information. “The governor believes that development must be balanced and far-reaching.”

The administration also clarified its approach to debt repayment and fiscal responsibility. Despite settling DESOPADEC ₦8.4 billion inherited contractual obligations, the government maintains strong financial health through disciplined project management and prompt contractor payments.

In addition, the State Security Trust Fund has been launched to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies through private sector participation and inter-agency cooperation.

The initiative aims to strengthen logistics, communication, and mobility, ensuring a safer and more secure Delta.

“Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution makes the security and welfare of citizens the government’s top priority,” the Commissioner noted. “This fund ensures we meet that constitutional responsibility efficiently.”

These efforts align with the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda and thematic policy framework, which place Meaningful Development as the foremost priority of governance.
